The management of municipal solid waste is crucial for environmental sustainability and the prevention of public health. This study uses an interval-valued q-rung orthopair fuzzy decision-making model to prioritize municipal solid waste management techniques in alignment with sustainable development goals. The proposed approach considers five alternatives: plasma gasification, incineration, composting, bioremediation, and landfilling based on twelve criteria. Criteria weights are determined using the extended opinion weight criteria method, and alternatives are ranked using the weighted aggregated sum product assessment method. The adaptability and robustness of the model are demonstrated through a comparative analysis using Spearman’s rank correlation and a sensitivity analysis conducted across ten scenarios. The results indicate that plasma gasification demonstrates superior performance due to its high energy recovery efficiency, minimal harmful emissions, and reduced residual waste, which can serve as a sustainable long-term strategy for waste-to-energy implementation.
